The 35th Annual Beach Party was a great success!
The 35th Annual Beach Party was an outstanding success!
MBPOA
Members along with family and friends celebrated summer once again with
the annual MBPOA Beach Party. It was held on Saturday, August 6th,
2011 at Webster Beach. The party featured lots of yummy stuff to eat
and drink, with great music, and games for the kids. We had brilliant
sunshine with perfect temperatures in the low 80s. This year, in fact, the turnout was the largest we have seen.
The steel drum music created an overall festive atmosphere from
beginning to end. The games for the kids included the water relay,
tug-of-war, egg toss and, of course, the sand castle contest.
Additionally, the face painting for the kids was extremely creative, and
enjoyed by all.
The
Kitchen Crew served 350 ears of corn, 700 hot dogs, 300 pulled pork sandwiches, 60 chickens from
Herb's Market, chips, tons of soda, watermelon
and cookies. It was a hungry crowd this year and we ended up cooking
every last item we had - so apologies to anyone who got there late
and ended up with cookies and watermelon.
We wish to thank Joan Stikeman and Bob
Shurman Co-Chairs along with their team of volunteers who helped to
make it happen. It's a big job and everyone pulled together to make it
a successful event. Bravo everyone! A shout out to Kris and John Kivela who came up with
some brilliant games for the kids to play and made all the signs for
the event. Thanks to Sharon Sennefelder who operated as our creative
director, helping with the games, prizes and creating a festive mood.
The Kivela's, Sennefelders and the check-in crew of Bob Mulligan and Ed Gentner did a great job of
selling raffle tickets, which helps to offset the costs of the party. Kudos also go out to Carol Shurman and her team of volunteers who delighted the children with the most creative face painting we have seen.
It takes a very large crew to
set up, cook and serve all that yummy food. A round of applause goes
out to the rest of the crew: Iris Mitchell (our super shopper), Harold
and Lily Elsis, John Winston, Brian Harris, Gerry Boyle, Bob Restivo and Rick Kallaher.
Thanks to the many other MBPOA members who also pitched in to help.
We had
our roving photographer, Lawrence Smith, who spent the day capturing
the event and activities for all of us to enjoy, which you can see here.
We also wish to thank everyone who contributed raffle, food and other items,
helped with setup and stayed around to help with the clean-up after the
event. We feel that the success of these parties is a direct
reflection of our wonderful and active organization.
